Bills to ban superintelligence are introduced in the UK and the US
Labour MP Alex Sobel introduced the Artificial Superintelligence Security Bill in the UK Parliament on Tuesday. A week earlier, Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Greg Casar introduced the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act in the United States. Connor Leahy, US executive director of ControlAI, who advised on both texts, says the UK bill identifies recursive self-improvement as a precursor to superintelligence that must be regulated and prevented. The bills arrive as lab researchers take their calls for a slowdown public. Investment in companies chasing the same goal continues: Ricursive Intelligence raised $335 million at a $4 billion valuation in February, and Recursive Superintelligence raised $650 million at the same valuation three months later.
“Superintelligence is not a tool. It's not a weapon, even. It's an adversary.”Connor Leahy, ControlAI
