Meta's new agent takes over the band Muse's social media handles

Muse, the AI agent Meta unveiled this week, is now using the @muse handle that the English rock band Muse had held for years on Instagram and X. The band, which trademarked its name in 1999, now posts as @museband on Instagram; The Independent reports the change happened in July, while Reddit users noticed it in early June. The same switch occurred on X, on an unknown date. Mark Zuckerberg's first posts about the agent, and posts by other Meta executives, tagged the band's account; New York Times reporter Mike Isaac called that a bug. Meta and representatives for the band did not answer Engadget's questions. Similar transfers have happened before: @Meta came from a motorcycle magazine in 2021 and @threads from a clothing retailer in 2023. Meta's rules do not permit buying or selling handles.
