Nvidia's Jensen Huang sides with Trump against an AI slowdown onstage

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang took a phone call from President Donald Trump on September 14 while onstage at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles, and put the call on speaker for the audience. The panel had been discussing Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's proposal to slow AI development. Trump said such calls serve political opponents and China, and dismissed the idea as a hoax. Huang agreed that a slowdown would not be allowed to happen.

Elon Musk and Sam Altman have publicly backed Amodei's proposal, so Huang's position sets him apart from those executives. A Gallup poll cited by TechCrunch found that seven in ten Americans oppose data center construction in their area. More than half of respondents pointed to the effect on environmental resources.

“You're right. We're not going to let that happen, sir.”Jensen Huang, Nvidia CEO
